Calling Sydney

On Saturday, the Australians celebrated the official national day of Australia. According to a local webblog, it is “against the law NOT to get shitfaced and barbeque some livestock”. Well, luckily I didn’t get too shitfaced (=besoffen), though we met many people in town who did. Neither did I barbeque some livestock, but I did barbeque some Halloumi (which, as I learned, tastes excellent with Mango sauce!)

We went to Oately (a suburb of Sydney) to meet some friends of Daniel, who live at a great spot! Their house is built on the top of a scarp, overlooking a whole lot of trees. It was impossible to capture this scenery with my camera. We had BBQ at the balcony, enjoying the view and watching exotic birds, like big white cockatoos and colourful parrots chasing each other through the tree tops.

A nice thing: Australia Day was on Saturday, so it was a holiday today (Monday) in order to assure that a holiday results in a day off from work, even if it falls on a weekend. (Somebody should introduce this to Austria!) I still had to go to the Uni to work today, but well, I also currently have like three jobs (or four, if I count my PhD project as well) …
